Graduation Requirements:
All majors must achieve a cumulative average in their major of at least 2.25 in order to receive a degree in the department. A minimum of twenty-one credits in the major must be earned in the department. A minimum of fifteen of the final twenty-one credits must be earned in the department.
In courses offered by the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Computer Science a grade of C- or better must be earned for the course to satisfy a graduation requirement of the major, with the following exceptions:
Mathematics: Liberal Arts, Mathematics: Statistics, Mathematics Secondary Education, or Mathematics Teaching majors:
- For 300 or 400 level courses, at most two grades of D or D+ may be counted. Only one of these grades can be earned in required courses.
- A grade of at least C- must be earned in any required course that is a prerequisite for another course which is subsequently taken.
Mathematics: Applied Math majors:
- For 300 or 400 level courses, at most one grades of D or D+ may be counted.
- A grade of at least C- must be earned in any required course that is a prerequisite for another course which is subsequently taken.
- A grade of C- or better must be earned in the Compute Science Correlate course.
Mathematics Teaching and Mathematics Secondary Education majors:
- Must additionally achieve an overall 2.75 grade point average to meet the state certification requirements.
Retention Standards:
Mathematics: Liberal Arts, Mathematics Secondary Education, or Mathematics Teaching majors must earn a grade of:

- B- or better in MAT 127 or MAT 128, and
- C or better in MAT 200 or MAT 205.
Mathematics: Statistics majors must earn a grade of:

- B- or better in MAT 125 or MAT 127 or MAT 128; and
- C or better in STA215; and
- C or better in MAT316.
Mathematics: Applied Mathematics majors must earn a grade of:

- B- or better in either MAT 127 or MAT 128
- C or better in MAT 326
- C or better in either MAT 200 or MAT 205
Requirements to Transfer Into Major
In order to transfer into the Mathematics: Liberal Arts, Mathematics Secondary Education,or Mathematics Teaching major a student must have earned a grade of:

- B- or better in at least one of MAT125, MAT127, and MAT128; and
- C or better in MAT200 or MAT205.
In order to transfer into the Mathematics: Statistics major a student must have earned a grade of:

- B- or better in at least one of MAT125, MAT127, and MAT128, and
- C or better in STA 215; and
- C or better in MAT 316.
In order to transfer into the Mathematics: Applied Mathematics major a student must have earned a grade of:

- B- or better in either MAT 127 or MAT 128
- C or better in either MAT 200 or MAT 205
Students with major code Mathematics Secondary Education or Mathematics Teaching must meet the following requirements as prerequisites to the field placements:

- 2.5 for JFE (Junior Field Experience)
- 2.75 GPA and a C+ in MTT 390 for student teaching and graduation.
Retention Appeals Procedure
Before a student can be dismissed from a mathematics major program, the department will issue at least one warning to the student, with an opportunity for discussion and assistance. Dismissal notices will be issued by the department each semester. The student may appeal to the department and thereafter to the dean of arts and sciences. The entire process should be completed in time to provide the student an opportunity to find another major before the start of the next semester.
Prerequisites
If a student has not met the exact prerequisites of a course as stated in this bulletin, but believes that the requirements have been satisfied through equivalent experiences, the student may gain admission to the course with the approval of the department chair.
