Dr. Farshid Safi’s Genealogy of Math Education

Dr. Farshid Safi’s multi-year genealogy project tracing the evolution and development of the field of mathematics education is examined in the September 10, 2013, issue of TCNJ Magazine. Along with his student collaborator, Sahnaz Saleem ’14, Dr. Safi is compiling qualitative data from doctoral dissertations published in the U.S. His goal is to create a system that lets people visualize and analyze that data and provide insight into the topics that shape how math is taught and learned.
